Human Resource Representatives conduct a variety of administrative activities including employment, compensation and benefits, training, and employee relations. They also conduct job interviews, maintain records, and counsel employees. An entry-level position requires a Bachelor of Science degree.
Patent and Trademark Attorneys participate and coordinate the patent, trademark, and intellectual property protection for a company or law firm. They prepare, prosecute, and enforce patent and trademark protection. Patent and trademark attorneys also find employment with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as examiners. An undergraduate degree in engineering or science is required in addition to a J.D.
A Patent and Trademark Agent performs similar duties as a patent and trademark attorney, including representing clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Agents also examine patent applications, draft patent licenses, and process patent applications. Though the licensing examination is the same for both attorneys and agents, a patent and trademark agent does not require a law degree but does require a bachelor’s degree in engineering or life sciences and previous litigation and/or legal experience.
Technical Writers are responsible for writing and editing laboratory procedure manuals, clinical study protocols, and standard operating procedures. This position requires a bachelor degree in a science or health-related field, though a master degree in a life science discipline is often referred.
Sales Representatives are responsible for the sale of company goods and products. They call on customers, provide product information, and represent the company at trade shows. The sales representative is also responsible for the development and growth of new and existing accounts. Entry-level sales positions require a bachelor degree, preferably in the life sciences.
