GaBioEd Biotech Teacher Training: Genomics

Friday, October 24, 2014
Morehouse School of Medicine’s Neuroscience Institute

Since the sequencing of the human genome in 2003 the field of genomics has exploded. We are now capable of sequencing all of the genomic information from a single cell. This has implications for personalized medicine, pharmacogenomics, unbiased testing for neurological disorders, advanced cancer screening, as well as emerging technologies such as microbiomes. This one day workshop will help teachers understand key concepts necessary to understanding genomics to the latest state of the art DNA sequencing approaches being used in research labs worldwide. Teachers will be introduced to the BigData2Knowledge project and be able to use free resources online to show students how to initiate their own bioinformatics investigations. This course provides content for planning course material relevant to the Introduction to Biotechnology course and the Application of Biotechnology course.
