     ATLANTA, GA (April 22, 2009) – Georgia Bio (GaBio) congratulates Johnny Fells III of Northside High School, Warner Robins, GA, and Sajith Wickramasekara of North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics, Raleigh, N.C., for winning the Southeast regional competition of the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge, conducted by the Arlington, Va.-based Biotechnology Institute.

    ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue today announced $1.6 million in federally-funded grants to four Georgia regions working toward earning Work Ready Region status. These regions bring together their assets and leaders to create regional talent pools targeting existing strategic industries and to increase economic development opportunities.
       
  • GaBio Convenes Inaugural Life Science Workforce Forum

    Georgia Bio will hold its first Life Science Workforce Forum Monday, November 17, 1pm to 5pm, at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with a keynote address by David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Satcher Health Leadership Institute and the Director of the Center of Excellence on Health Disparities at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). He also holds the MSM Poussaint-Satcher-Cosby Chair in Mental Health.

    GaBio Supports Approval of H.S. Biotechnology Research and Development Career Pathway. ATLANTA, GA (July 24, 2008) – Georgia Bio applauds the State Board of Education for its approval of a high school curriculum for a Biotechnology Research and Development Career Pathway, scheduled for launch in the fall 2009. Initially approved under the Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Division, the courses are expected to be offered for science elective credit in the near future.
